Working in Partnership

Who will operate the facility?

The county council will appoint a contractor to build and operate the facility at the Four Ashes Industrial Estate. The appointment of a successful contractor involves a detailed and complex selection process designed to identify a company that has the proven ability to deliver a solution to deal with Staffordshire’s growing amount of waste.

Four AshesThe contractor will need to provide the council with proven technical skill, financial expertise and environmental credentials. The council will shortlist two contractors in the summer of 2009 and select the winning contractor by May 2010. The successful contractor will work closely with the county council and the local community.

Active Community Involvement

The planning committee has emphasised that public involvement with the development of this facility will be of particular importance to the county council. As the project progresses, the local community will have the opportunity to be involved with the following project features:

  • A local resident liaison committee will be set up to ensure efficient communication between the operators of the facility and the local community. This will be established at an early stage before work begins.
  • Discussions that will take place about certain design aspects of the building.
  • A dedicated website that posts all the emission monitoring from the plant, allowing the public to view the plant’s performance.
