W2R Blog The purpose of this blog is to keep you updated on the development of proposals to develop an Energy from Waste facility. Over the coming weeks and months I will be providing updates on the latest news and answers to questions that you might have. Where possible I have provided links to other resources you might find useful. Looking to the future the county council remains committed to being open and honest with local residents around Four Ashes. October 2008 – Shortlist for Waste Facility Contract (Update) The last few months for Project W2R have been extremely busy. As promised, it is important that I continue to keep you updated on important developments. This time, I would like to inform you about our work to identify the best company possible, who would work with Staffordshire, to operate the proposed new residual waste facility in the south of the county. At the beginning of August, Project W2R invited private companies to submit proposals about how best to deal with residual waste that is created in Staffordshire and other nearby locations. A notice appeared in the Official Journal of the European Union. 13 private companies submitted proposals at the beginning of September, and now, after conducting a rigorous selection process, the council has a shortlist of four major waste management companies who could potentially operate a proposed facility. The four short listed companies all have a proven record in the waste management industry, and have been chosen on the basis of their technological expertise and experience, proven corporate responsibility and financial strength. The four companies are:
Staffordshire County Council is confident that each company listed could successfully deliver and achieve the targets Project W2R has set. These companies will now be invited to submit detailed ideas about how best to deal with residual waste.
Looking to the future, and considering this information, it is important to highlight that the short listing of these companies does not pre-empt the decision on the planning application at Four Ashes, nor does it reflect any belief by the county council that the decision about the planning application is a foregone conclusion.
